If the eyes are the window to the soul, then what we see will have a profound and lasting effect on each of us. In fact, what we see can determine our ability to find happiness and to experience the joy of living.
Our vision can expose us to the fears and terrors of the world. How we respond to those fears and terrors is up to us.
I believe for most; our eyes are fixed on things we would be better off not seeing. I believe many of the things we are watching and looking at are doing more harm than we can know or imagine.
If this is true, why won’t we “open our eyes” and see what it is happening right in front of us. My contention is we do not do so, because we don’t want to. This is true because we see what we want to see.
Ironically, this is nothing new for humanity. In Jesus’s day, those who were the most learned when it came to issues of God were unable to recognize Him when He stood right in front of them. They could not see even though their eyes were wide open.
Do you think if being unable to recognize God was possible then, it is not possible we may not recognize evil today?
If we truly see what we want to see and nothing else, is it possible, we will not” open our eyes” and see how far from the truth we are moving as a people?
Yes, I include the Church in this statement, as it seems fixated on representing an acceptable version of itself to the world instead of representing the truth to a world that desperately needs it.
The time for loving others is now and the only we can do so is to “open our eyes” to the lies being perpetrated all around us.
Even as I write this, I know there are those whose sensibilities will be hurt as I am seen as someone who is trying to impose their religious beliefs on others. When in fact, I am just trying to help people see we all need to “open our eyes” before we are unable to see any longer.
Is this possible? If so, who can take away our ability to see?
The answer is those who are taking the pictures, writing the scripts, and producing the information we are exposed to daily. These are the ones with the power to control what we see, hear, think, and believe.
If you are naïve enough to think there is no desire to control humanity, or you believe no one has influence over what you see, think, hear, and believe, then you are certainly not a student of history, because of that, you are destined to repeat it.
I will close with this.
If you are like me and you consider yourself to be a contemplative thinker who has desires and passions, and you believe you have a purpose in life, we have a choice to make. We can “open our eyes” while we can still see, or we can leave them closed and be blind forever.
This choice, as with every we choice we make in life, is ours and the way we see the world and what the world sees in us, will be the result!!
Matthew 6:22-23, ““The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
