The Land of Confusion

I used to think things would become more apparent as I aged. The premise was that I would know, understand, and be experienced enough to distinguish the truth from a lie.

This would allow me to become more aware of those seeking to take advantage of my lack of knowledge and understanding.

Unfortunately, this has not been the case, as I believe we live in “the land of confusion,” and I feel more confused every day.

This confusion is not limited to a particular issue or subject, one specific segment of society, personal preference, or rights and freedoms.

This condition is a by-product of all this as people become further and further removed from the societal norms of the past and more convinced that norms do not exist anymore, nor should they.

“The land of confusion” is all around us, all the time.

People deal with this confusion by asserting their idea, thought, or belief is correct and must be accepted and validated simply because they believe it should, no matter how bizarre or far-removed from all we have known to be true in the past.

Things like gender dysphoria and the grooming of children to give validation to a particular mindset, idea, or preference have reached the point of absurdity as we see people forcing their beliefs upon others as they rail against anyone who does the same thing,

The most extraordinary evidence we live in “the land of confusion” may be the constant railing about the need for inclusion by people who refuse to include anyone who does not believe what they believe.

My hope in writing this is not to answer the question of who is right or wrong on any issue. I am hoping to provide an opportunity for clarity by pointing out the confusion created by refusing to talk about the differences we all have in common is more important than being right.

I know this is a by-product of aging, as I have become less concerned about being right and more concerned about listening and being heard. Being right works itself out when we realize that what one person believes is true might not be what another person believes is true and correct.

Remember, I said I was less concerned about being right. I did not say I do not think I am right.

“The land of confusion” may not clear itself up today, and maybe even what I have written will not make a difference to anyone else but me.

Regardless, I think we will be less confused if we realize that everyone’s point of view matters—even the ones that are confusing to me!

Psalm 119:130 says, “The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.”
