Expecting and Accepting

Our lives are a series of highs and lows, and our response to each will vary greatly.

Some struggle with expectations. While others are consumed by visions of grandeur.

When those expectations are left unmet, they can lead to disappointment, dissatisfaction, and complacency.

If we are not careful, we can begin to see our limitations as permanent and insurmountable. Too often, we expect too much from life and accept too little of ourselves. This is truly ironic in a world filled with possibilities and opportunities.

What if we accepted that we all have limitations? Would that discourage us, or challenge us to reach for more? Conversely, if we believe our current situation is the highest we can ever attain, will we ever be able to accomplish more?

How do we overcome that mindset?

We begin by casting aside any doubt and believing we can become more than we believed possible. This requires faith in God and the conviction that He can accomplish more in and through us than we can accomplish on our own.

Remember, you are more than the sum of your experiences, and you are not defined by the limitations you have accepted from yourself, society, and others.

The question is: do you believe this is true?

My own life bears witness to this truth. I have been blessed to move far beyond where I began, and I believe God still has more ahead. My confidence is not rooted in worldly success; it is rooted in the One in whom I have placed my hope and faith. I know His abilities are without limit, and through Him, our potential to fulfill His purpose for our lives is far greater than we may think.

I do not know what you are expecting from life or what you are accepting about yourself. I only know that you were created for more than your fears, failures, and perceived limitations.

My hope in writing this is to remind you to expect God to work in your life and accept the truth that, with Him, no obstacle is greater than His purpose for you.
