Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

We have all heard the saying, “You can’t see the forest for the trees.” This week, a dear friend reminded me of a similar truth as we stood on the beach watching the sunrise.
Sometimes the clouds can obscure the beauty of a new day, making it difficult to see the sun.
The same is true in our lives.
Like the clouds in the sky, the clouds we face are real. They can take many forms—trials, disappointments, uncertainties, and sorrows—and often make it difficult to see our way forward. The key is remembering that even when the clouds block our view, they do not remove the sun. It is still shining behind them because the sun is always there.
There is always “sunshine on a cloudy day.”
For a believer in Jesus Christ, the Son is always there as well. He shines through the darkest clouds and remains present even when we cannot clearly see Him. Remembering this helps us realize that the clouds of life are temporary. Just as physical clouds eventually move on or fade away, so too will many of the difficulties and uncertainties we face.
This is where we find peace in troubled times and joy even in the midst of tragedy. When we focus on the Son rather than the clouds, our perspective changes. Not only do we see life more clearly, but we also gain the assurance that there can be “sunshine on a cloudy day.”
Because the Son was there all along.
Psalm 46:1
